![]() THE INNOCENT SCHAPELLE CORBY This is probably a story more familiar to Australians and although it is now an old one, it remains unresolved, because an innocent girl has never truly been acknowledged as such. Schapelle Corby, a 27 year old beautician from the Gold Coast in Queensland, was heading overseas for a short holiday to Bali in 2005 when she was arrested upon arrival at Bali airport. Authorities found 4.2 kilos of marijuana in her unlocked small boogie board bag. Australian television broadcast her arrest on the 6pm news, and I knew instantly that this girl was completely innocent. Schapelle was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and ultimately served nine years in the harsh conditions of Kerobokan prison in Bali, followed by a further two years during which she was not permitted to leave Bali. Ripped from her beloved ocean, Schapelle lost 12 years and 8 months of her life, finally returning to Australia in 2017, plus however long it took her to recover afterwards. I believe she has recovered now, though I expect it’s been a long and very difficult process. Throughout her imprisonment, her sister Mercedes moved to Bali to give unwavering and loving support. Alongside Schapelle’s incredible inner strength, much credit must be given to the extraordinary presence of Mercedes, and to their mother Rosleigh. I researched this situation considerably at the time and believe that anyone who truly looks into the facts cannot fail to realise that Schapelle is 100 percent innocent. It is believed the marijuana was placed into Schapelle’s boogie bag at Brisbane airport by corrupt baggage handlers, with the intention that it be removed by another handler during a flight change in Sydney. This removal did not occur, and the drugs continued on to Bali inside Schapelle’s bag. It has since been proven that drugs were being trafficked through Australian airports. Eventually, several Sydney baggage handlers were jailed for drug smuggling using passenger luggage on the very same date that Schapelle’s bag passed through Sydney airport. The police officer in charge of that specific investigation was later jailed as part of the smuggling ring. For reasons we can only speculate on, the Australian government failed to approach the Balinese government with this evidence. Early on, I met with a close female friend of Schapelle’s in Tugun on the Gold Coast. She told me she was about to visit Schapelle in Bali. I gave her a specially programmed quartz crystal for Schapelle, designed to support her emotionally and energetically, and to help her cope and heal during her time in prison. I truly hope that she received it. From the beginning, my heart was with this beautiful young woman whose life was changed overnight. Her extraordinary strength places her, in my eyes, in a very special category, one that feels aligned with the most beautiful realms of angels. Whatever the role was that you held, an exceptional ‘well done’ Schapelle.
